Having established a career before entering medical school can also be a hedge against the capricious nature of medical training. No medical student should begin such an expensive and stressful journey without the confidence that another job awaits should things go awry. Residency trainees can find their contracts not renewed with no way to obtain board certification — a necessity for obtaining a job in the overwhelming majority of hospitals and clinics. Dating in medical school?
Content-wise, the material may vary from school-to-school. Some schools have a traditional curriculum, where you learn all of the physiology (or what’s normal) first across all organ systems, then learn about how it can be abnormal , and then how to treat it . They need to know/feel you’re with them on this. You know they’re doing this for a reason more than anyone else.
The second half of fourth year of medical school usually carries a lighter course load, especially if you plan it that way. Traveling for residency interviews made it a little difficult to finalize wedding details, but Amber made sure everything was in place. Mostly passed with the occasional high pass my first two years of book work. Then mostly high pass and honors my third clinical year, including the very rare double honor in medicine and medicine sub-I. The short answer is that you can have time for anything in medical school if you prioritize it. In their household, Sarah and her partner have a “no yucky stuff” rule because Sarah would faint just hearing the gross stuff. Her husband being an emergency medicine doctor, there are so many things she never hears about because she can’t handle it. Then they’d call on each other when one of their partners was on a tough rotation or when they were both studying at the same time. She also had one friend from college who’s a partner with someone in Brian’s class.
I know her self-esteem seems to be getting lower and lower. She seems to think she’s not even intelligent anymore. If you are dating a medical student, you should keep your head high and be full of yourself. That’s one of the things the medical school does to you, we are hardened but not the bad way…hardened to save lives. We may just be improving ourselves to become good doctors after med school.
I’m a fourth-year medical student. I don’t want to graduate early.
